DuPont Performance Elastomers impressive portfolio of products for the wire and cable industry meet virtually all jacketing requirements in the low and medium voltage category.
Today, the lineup includes Hypalon® chlorosulfonated polyethylene, Neoprene polychloroprene, Viton® fluoroelastomer and Viton® FreeFlow™. Individually, each offers a unique performance profile. Collectively, they represent the broadest selection of synthetic elastomers from one company.
Hypalon® chlorosulfonated polyethylene is an important low temperature cure jacketing material for industrial and mining cables, and RHH-RHW integral INS-JKT. As one of the most weather resistant elastomers available, it meets requirements for heavy-duty and extra heavy-duty power cables. Other critical properties include exceptional resistance to flex cracking and abrasion, and to heat and UV/ozone, moisture and chemicals. Hypalon® is easily pigmented and its color stability is ideal for cable identification and aesthetic appeal.
Vamac® ethylene/acrylic elastomer has exceptionally low smoke emission characteristics. When properly compounded with a sufficient amount of hydrated alumina, compounds of Vamac® offer an excellent combination of properties for low smoke, flame retardant cable jackets.
Widely used as protective cover for cables since the 1940s, Neoprene polychloroprene provides many of the attributes of natural rubber in jacketing but with significantly better heat, ozone-corona, weather, chemical, oil and flame resistance. Applications include jacketing for lead press cured black mining cables, and heavy-duty and extra heavy-duty cables. In addition, the outstanding physical toughness and exceptional resistance to flex cracking and abrasion of Neoprene leads to improved cable performance and service life.
During the manufacture of jacketing for wire and cable, die build-up can develop. The deposits on the die aversely affect production rates and surface quality. The use of Viton® FreeFlow™ reduces die build-up, improves processing and surface finish with no effect on performance including electrical properties or permeability.
Viton®, the world's first and leading fluoroelastomer, delivers exceptional performance in low voltage insulation and jacketing, being particularly resistant to high temperatures and aggressive fluids. Viton® can be crosslinked at high and low temperature and by irradiation.
